Dolores “Dee” Buie was born in Manhattan NY and grew up in Pineville S.C. She is the middle child of four living siblings of which two followed her career path as Navy Veterans. She is the mother of one adult child. She enlisted her senior year of high school, in the U.S. Navy delayed entry program. Upon graduation in 1979, she went on active duty in 1980 to fulfill her childhood dreams of traveling, seeing the world and keeping a promise to her grandfather to get an education.
Her 30-year career in the Navy has taken her from the country roads of South Carolina to tours of duty around the world, overseas, from the west coast of San Diego CA, to the east coast of VA, and DC. Accokeek Maryland is where she now calls home. During her 30-year naval career, she has kept her grandfather’s promise and earned a Bachelor of Science in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University and a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Curriculum, Development and Design, with honors from American Intercontinental University. Highlights of her naval career Includes duties as an Instructor, Master Training Specialist, Course Curriculum Model Manager, Recruiter and Force Career Counselor for U.S. Atlantic Fleet and the title of Master Chief Navy Counselor (E9).
After retiring from active duty in 2009, she worked as a Navy Contractor for 6 years before landing her current position with NAVSEA PEO Ships as Manpower Personal Training (MP&T) Lead for DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class Ships. Her current position requires Monitor and report on training curriculum, procurement of training related hardware and Software development. She is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) who leads across (government and industry) personnel in the development and execution of long-range training requirements and execution milestones for DDG 1000 Class Ships, ensuring sailor platform objectives and qualifications standards for shipboard readiness are met. It is her desire to make a difference within Impact100 Global Veterans as the Grant Review Committee Chair – Education.
